APCC response to the Justice Committee report

19/07/2019

Responding to the Justice Committee report, APCC Criminal Justice Lead, David Lloyd PCC, said:

“As local leaders, Police and Crime Commissioners have a key role to play under the new probation services model both in bringing partners together to reduce reoffending and ensuring local transparency.

“We share the Committee’s concerns about the risks between now and when the new arrangements are in place of Community Rehabilitation Companies (CRCs) disinvesting and the consequences of this for the services they provide.

“We have been working closely with the Ministry of Justice and wider partners to ensure that probation services will be able to deliver effectively for local communities, helping to make them safer. As part of this work we will continue to work with the MoJ to ensure that the risks identified by the Committee in moving to the new probation services model are appropriately addressed and mitigated.”
