Ferrers Award to recognise role of OPCC volunteers
Nominations for the annual Lord Ferrers awards, which open today, will for the first time include a specific category recognising the exceptional contribution of OPCC (Office of Police and Crime Commissioner) volunteers in policing.
APCC Lead for Citizens in Policing, Alun Michael, Police and Crime Commissioner for South Wales, said:
“I warmly welcome the addition of a Commissioner’s category at the annual Lord Ferrers Awards.
“Volunteers make a huge contribution to policing and in my team, and every other Police and Crime Commissioner’s office throughout England and Wales, they play an integral role helping us to hold the police to account and make our communities safer.
“Whether it’s checking the care of people in police custody, the welfare of their working animals or advising on policing issues and community groups through Independent Advisory Groups, the commitment of these individuals and teams is to be welcomed. I am sure that these awards will provide an excellent opportunity to showcase their achievements.”
