APCC comment on the Domestic Abuse Commissioner’s Domestic Homicide Review Pilot report

In response to publication of the Domestic Abuse Commissioner’s report into her recent Domestic Homicide Review Pilot, APCC Victims Leads Clare Moody and Matthew Scott, said:

“We welcome the Domestic Abuse Commissioner’s report on the Domestic Homicide Review (DHR) oversight pilot, ‘Learning from loss’, in which Police and Crime Commissioners (PCCs) and Deputy Mayors played an active role.

“This important and timely work has demonstrated the value of PCCs’ independent oversight of local implementation of DHRs in England and Wales. As elected leaders with a statutory duty to tackle crime and support victims, we are uniquely placed to drive accountability, bring partners together, and help ensure that lessons learnt translate into meaningful, lasting change.

“We value our ongoing partnership with the Domestic Abuse Commissioner and look ahead to the revised statutory guidance, which we hope will formalise the role and responsibilities of PCCs in overseeing the implementation of DHRs. Clear national expectations are essential to delivering consistency, transparency, and effective local practice.

“At its core, this work is about saving lives. We remain committed to working with partners across the system to ensure the voices of victims and their families drive change and accountability at every level.”
