Membership of the APCC provides PCCs, PFCCs, Deputy Mayors, and their offices, with access to a wealth of benefits and services.

The APCC responds to national consultations on behalf of members and PCCs have the opportunity to represent PCCs at a national level through joint leadership of one of more than 20 ‘portfolio’ areas the APCC operates in. These involve meetings and presenting at evidence sessions with leading stakeholders, including ministers and parliamentarians, senior policy officials and NGOs. Members also represent PCC interests through media opportunities via the APCC. The APCC also nominates members to attend royal garden parties.

Legal services
PCCs can access up to four hours of legal advice through their office on complex governance and HR issues, covering:
Employee advice
- General HR advice on issues such as discipline, grievances and conflicts of interest
- HR policies, for example termination of contract and settlement agreements
- HR policies, including recruitment
Governance
- Policing governance matters
- Police and Crime Panel disputes
- Complex complaints
- Contracts and disputes
- Civil disputes
- Collaboration
